Hat-trick Hero Karthik Meiyappan Hopes to be Picked by CSK at IPL 2023 Auction

Chennai-born Karthik Meiyappan became the first bowler to record a hat-trick against Sri Lanka in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. Meiyappan, representing the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in the T20 world cup. He quickly dismissed Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Charith Asalanka, and Dasun Shanaka in the 15th over, dropping the Islanders from a comfortable 92/2 to 117 for 5.

Opening batter Pathum Nissanka scored 74 runs off 60 balls raising Sri Lanka’s total to 152 for 8. The UAE bowled out for a pitiful 73 in 17.1 overs.

Karthik Meiyappan Hopes to Be Selected by CSK

Meiyappan hopes to be selected in the IPL for the Chennai Super Kings team this time. “That is something I don’t know about. But I hope they do,” said the 22-year-old when asked what the likelihood was of CSK selecting him.

Meiyappan was a member of the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) training camp in 2020. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the IPL was moved from India to the UAE, where he was also in the same camp as Ahmed Raza.

Meiyappan said to the Indian Express. “I came down during my off-season to work with Venkataraman, Sir. I have grown a lot as a spinner in the last two years. After the U19 World Cup, being able to spend time with RCB in the IPL as a bowler was a very enriching experience,” 

“It’s not often you get the chance to rub shoulders with the best and learn how they prepare for a game. And then in 2021, I had the opportunity to be with the Super Kings, which again was a very nice experience,”
