“Only if they don’t get him, they will go for other players,”: Ashwin on Stokes’ future in IPL 2023

Ashwin Says Lucknow SuperGiants will Buy Ben Stokes. Who doesn’t want a player like Ben Stokes on their team? He is currently one of the Best All Rounders in the world. Interestingly, there is fascinating news before the mini-auction about different star players. On December 23, the mini-auction of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2023) will take place in Kochi, and there is already some speculation about which players the franchises will select. As Ashwin said: “Only if they don’t get him, they will go for other players,.”

Players have been evaluated in several tournaments, including the T20 World Cup and recent events. Among all the players who will be up for bidding at the auction, Stokes, the famous all-rounder and England Test captain will command the highest base price of Rs 2 crore.

A fierce bidding war will ensue for Stokes, and several teams will vie for his services. However, top Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin believes the Lucknow SuperGiants will win the battle for Stokes.

“Lucknow Super Giants will definitely go for Ben Stokes. Only if they don’t get him, they will go for other players,” Ashwin told fans via YouTube.

“I feel as a second keeper, an explosive left-hander, I know he didn’t play well last year but I feel he will go for a good price, Nicholas Pooran. His resale value will be really high.”

One of the teams joining the event with a hefty purse is the Lucknow SuperGiants. SuperGiants had a remaining bid fund of Rs 23.35 crore. They can get Ben Stokes even if his price increases due to a bidding war.

Ben Stokes will be a fantastic addition to the squad. He can fill all the Super Giants’ remaining four foreign places. They have released two all-rounders in Andrew Tye and Jason Holder and a batting brad in Manish Pandey. Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) has already put Stokes on the Target List of SRH.

His IPL career spanned 43 games with the now Rising Pune Supergiants and the Rajasthan Royals. He scored 920 runs and two centuries. Furthermore, Stokes has taken 28 wickets during his bowling career. Surprisingly, he decided not to participate in the 2022 IPL season. The reason was to focus on preparation for the New Zealand Test series.

“Even CSK might also go for him because CSK will go for Sam Curran from the Marquee list. They won’t get him. They will go all-out on Ben Stokes as well; they won’t get him as well; they will also go for Cameron Green,” said Ashwin.

In addition, Ashwin predicts CSK may make a bid for West Indies wicketkeeper Nicholas Pooran as a backup option for MS Dhoni. What do you think of Cameron Green?
