Why is Bumrah Not Playing in IPL 2023? Bumrah Set to Miss IPL 2023

Why is Bumrah Not Playing in IPL 2023? It is the most heated question nowadays. Isn’t it? As Jasprit Bumrah has been advised that he can undergo back surgery, he will miss the IPL 2023. Despite not fully recovering from the back injury that caused him to miss last year’s T20 World Cup, Bumrah will likely miss the World Test Championship final at The Oval on June 7(most likely).

According to sources, BCCI medical staff at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru are treating Bumrah urgently. Following repeated niggles in his lower back which first surfaced last August due to stress, the staff suggested surgery. It was a thought that Bumrah would be fit before IPL 2023.

Bumrah Injury’s Timeline

In conjunction with the NCA and Bumrah, the BCCI is expected to decide on the next step, as the ODI World Cup is scheduled for October-November in India. Since suffering a back injury last August that ruled him out of the Asia Cup last year, Jasprit Bumrah has tried to return more than once.

At first, Bumrah’s injury didn’t appear too serious. He was selected for India’s T20 World Cup squad on September 12 and even played both T20Is of the Australia series to demonstrate his fitness.

In Thiruvananthapuram, Bumrah was absent for the first T20I against South Africa three days later. After undergoing scans, Bumrah was determined to have a stress-related injury. The next day he was hustled to the NCA for further scans, which confirmed the injury as severe. He subsequently had to withdraw from the tournament.

In November, Bumrah resumed his rehab. He began bowling by mid-December, more than a week after the Indian squad was initially picked. Unsurprisingly, the selectors added him to the white-ball squad. Mumbai Indians are also very concerned about Bumrah’s health.

The match simulation exercises Bumrah performed at NCA were uncomfortable. Later, he felt uncomfortable performing higher workloads during a fitness drill in Mumbai in early January. During his Australia Tests, he was ruled out due to a developed ailment.

Despite Rohit Sharma warning India against rushing Bumrah back into action. The Indian team management and NCA want him to return only when he is 100% fit.

What are your thoughts on Bumrah’s comeback?
