IPL franchises approach Australian cricketers for year-round contracts

Many Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises have purchased teams in different T20 leagues worldwide to expand their followings. At the same time, the owners of Mumbai Indians, Delhi Capitals, and Kolkata Knight Riders have bought teams in the UAEs International T20 League (ILT20). In addition, IPL franchise owners have also purchased all six teams in South Africa SA20 League. 

IPL franchise owners exploring the best options globally. Additionally, they have been hoping to entice the best players to play for their franchises throughout the year.  However, players voluntarily sign an annual contract with a franchise after signing a one-year contract with the top cricketers. Then they will be available for selection in all T20 leagues. 

As per the report, some IPL franchises recently held informal talks with the players through their administrations to search out how much time it would take to convince them to ditch their Cricket Australia contracts and agree to be a T20 globe-trotter with their IPL franchise.

The informal talks so far have led to as high as $5 million may be presented to some of the top Australian cricketers. Cummins is currently the highest-earning cricketer in the Australia Internation Cricket team. Earlier, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) CEO told in the telegraph.

“In an ideal world, sure – because that allows us to make our vision and our strategy even stronger. If we could have X number of contracted players and use them in different leagues, I think that would be nirvana. Hopefully, someday it will happen. I wouldn’t be surprised if it did.”

The new edition of the Indian Premier League 2023 is expected to start in the last week of March 2023. The IPL 2023 auction is scheduled to take place in mid-December.
