Afghan fast bowler Naveen-ul-Haq, who recently represented Sharjah Warriors in the ILT20 league, has been handed a 20-month ban due to a breach of contract. The disciplinary action comes as a setback for the talented pacer known for his fiery spells on the cricket field.
CEO of ILT20 David White Said:
“We do not take pride in making this announcement but all parties are expected to comply with their contractual commitments and recognize that non-compliance can cause damage to the other party. Unfortunately, Naveen-ul-Haq failed to honor his contractual obligations with the Sharjah Warriors, and as such the league had no option but to impose this 20-month ban on him.
“The disciplinary proceedings against Naveen were conducted in a transparent manner and both parties involved were given opportunities to prepare and present their submissions.”
In the just-concluded ILT20 season, Naveen-ul-Haq featured in 9 matches for the Sharjah Warriors, where he showcased his bowling prowess by claiming 11 wickets at an average of 24.36 runs per wicket.
Notably, the 23-year-old cricketer had been part of the cricketing world’s attention since his inclusion in the CC World Cup 2013, which marked his last appearance in one-day internationals. He has recently announced his retirement from the fifty-over format, a decision aimed at managing his workload and channeling his focus on T20 cricket, where he has made a significant impact.
Fans and cricket enthusiasts were looking forward to Naveen-ul-Haq’s performance in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season. The Afghan speedster had been set to join the Lucknow Super Giants, adding more firepower to the franchise’s bowling lineup.
