The IPL has seen numerous title sponsors since its inception in 2008, reflecting its growing commercial appeal. From DLF and Pepsi to Vivo and Tata, each sponsor has contributed to the league’s evolving identity and global reach.
IPL Title Sponsors from 2008 till Now
Below is the IPL title sponsors list year-wise:
Year | Title Sponsor | Amount (INR Crore) |
---|---|---|
2008-2012 | DLF | 40 (per year) |
2013-2015 | Pepsi | 79.2 (per year) |
2016-2017 | VIVO | 100 |
2018-2019 | VIVO | 439.8 |
2020 | Dream11 | 222 |
2021 | VIVO | 440 |
2022-2023 | TATA Group | 670 |
2024 | TATA Group | 2500 |
DLF (2008-2012)
The owner of having title sponsorship of the inaugural season of IPL goes to DLF. This company signed a deal with BCCI and won the title sponsorship of IPL. The agreement was done for 4 years, beginning in 2008 and ending in 2012, at the highest bid of INR 40 crores. It is a Gurugram-based real estate company known as Delhi Land and Finance, founded by Chaudhary Raghvendra Singh in 1946. After the contract was over, the company didn’t renew it further.
Pepsi (2013-2015)
The soft drink company Pepsi partnered with IPL and became its second title sponsor after DLF. This contract was done for five years at the rate of INR 396 crores. The fixing scandal occurred in IPL 2015, leading to two teams’ suspensions. Pepsi withdraws its name from the IPL sponsorship after 2 years of the agreement. Pepsi just paid 238.2 crores to the BCCI and never continued the contract again.
Vivo (2016-2017) (2018-2019)
Winning title sponsorships for IPL have proved opportunistic for many sponsors, team owners, and franchises. With the withdrawal of Pepsi, Vivo jumped in and grabbed the title sponsorship of IPL for 2 years at 100 crores per annum. Vivo is a Chinese mobile manufacturing company that led to the immense popularity and sales of Vivo mobiles in India.
Vivo renewed the contract in 2018 and won the title sponsorship of IPL. This year a contract was made for five years. This time Vivo made a massive bid of 2,199 crores. Because of tension growing at the Indo-Chinese border and anti-Chinese sentiments dominating the country, the contract could not sustain the due time.
Dream 11 (2020)
The Mumbai-based fantasy sports platform Dream 11 was the highest bidder to gain the title sponsorship of IPL 2020 for INR 222 crores. The other platforms, like Unacademy and Byjus, were competing against one another for IPL sponsorship, but Dream 11 grabbed it. This sponsorship fee was half the annual amount of Vivo’s contract.
Vivo (2021)
The improved relationship between the two countries, India and China, led to a remarkable comeback of Vivo as the title sponsor of IPL 2021. Earlier, the contract was signed between Vivo and BCCI for five years, but this time, it remained sustained for one year. Throughout this year, Vivo continued its sponsorship, but it pulled out of the agreement for the new season of IPL.
TATA (2022-2024)
The most reputed industrial group in India, TATA has replaced Vivo to have the title sponsorship for IPL 2022. The deal was signed for two years, 2022 and 2023, and TATA group will pay INR 335 crores yearly. It is expected that the BCCI will continue with this deal in the upcoming seasons of IPL.
