Veteran India opener Shikhar Dhawan is set to replace Mayank Agarwal as Punjab Kings Captain for the next edition in 2023, the Indian Premier League side announced Wednesday.
Mayank Agarwal was appointed team captain last season after KL Rahul left the team to join Lucknow Supergiants.
Agarwal scored just 196 runs in 13 games while averaging 16.33 runs per game while. The team also performed poorly during his captaincy.
However, Dhawan is one of the most experienced and best batsmen in IPL history. He is the second-highest run-scorer in the list of IPL behind Virat Kohli. Last season, Dhawan hit 460 runs from 14 matches as Punjab Kings finished sixth in the points table.
“The board has decided to make Dhawan captain. He has all the experience, both as a player and captain in the IPL, and did well for the team in his first season last year,” he said in a post.
