Sunrisers Hyderabad released Kane Williamson Before IPL 2023 Auction, and the news wasn’t surprising to Sunrisers’ fans, experts, or Williamson himself. The New Zealand captain played 76 matches for Sunrisers and captained the team 46 times during the 2022 IPL campaign. He scored 2101 runs at an average of 36.22 and a strike rate of 126.03.
After falling out with David Warner – an Australian wizard, the previous year, the Sunrisers named Williamson their full-time captain. He was made captain ahead of the IPL 2022 season. They won five games in a row in the first half of the season. But, they won only six out of 14 and retained him for 14 crores.
The low-strike rate is why Sunrisers Hyderabad released Kane William Before IPL 2023. It was the lowest in the last IPL. In addition, no improvements were seen in the WorldCup T20 2022.
In a statement, Kan Williamson stated:
“No, not really,” Williamson said when asked if being released by a team he captained would make him reconsider his T20 future. “There are a lot of competitions around the world, and the IPL is certainly an amazing completion to be a part of. You see players play for different teams all the time. There are a lot of options, lot of cricket, so for me, I love playing all formats.”
He further added:
Williamson said the Sunrisers’ management had spoken to him about their decision “a few days ago”. “That’s the way it goes, I had a really enjoyable time at SRH, I have a lot of fond memories,” he said. “It wasn’t a surprise when it “retention list” was officially released.”
