Understanding The Hundred Draft System 2023

The following is the explanation of The Hundred 2023 draft system.

Stage 1: Retention

  • 10 players plus one England player can be retained according to their salary package.
  • A squad can keep a maximum of three marquee players- England or overseas players – but with a maximum of two England or overseas players. Teams couldn’t retain three of one category.
  • The teams don’t need to fill their retention slots.

Stage 2: The Hundred Draft Order

Each franchise took the draft in turns to pick a player. The following is the draft order for the men’s and women’s teams.

  • Welsh Fire
  • Southern Brave
  • Northern Superchargers
  • Oval Invincibles
  • Birmingham Phoenix
  • London Spirit
  • Manchester Originals
  • Trent Rockets

Right To Match(RTM)

If the retention slot was not fulfilled, a team can still buy a player through Right to Match. In the RTM, a team buys one of their previous players they didn’t retain at the time when a rival team offers to buy the player.

Stage 3: The Vitality Wildcard And Open Market

The Vitality Wildcard Draft will happen at the start of The Hundred. Teams can pick a maximum of 2 players from the unsold players lists during the Vitality Wildcard Draft.
