After the IPL Mini-auction date announcement of the IPL 2023, the big news is Rs 400 crore will be the base price for the franchise in WIPL. For the upcoming women’s T20 league, the BCCI plans to auction five franchises through a closed tender starting March 2023. BCCI has set the base price set at Rs 400 crore, which is USD 50 m approximately of the TATA WIPL 2023 franchise.
Based on the value of the most expensive franchise sold in 2007-08 – the Mumbai Indians – at USD 111.9 million (approx. Rs 446 crore) per unit, the cricket board took this decision.
“The benchmark had to be set somewhere, and the BCCI had been gathering a bit of market intelligence on this, keeping in mind the demand and market interest,”
Authorities haven’t commented publicly on these expectations till now. The expected range will likely range from Rs 1000 to Rs 1500 crore.
“The winning franchise will pay the ownership fees to the BCCI over a period of five years in equal installments and continue to own the property for perpetuity, like in the men’s IPL,” add those in the know.
At the 91st Annual General Meeting in Mumbai on October 18, the General Body took an important decision. The (BCCI) approved the much-anticipated Women’s IPL. Big names like Harmanpreet Kaur and Smriti Mandana will be among the top players in the Women’s IPL. Also, Mithali Raj has already kept options open for WIPL. Mithali was the Former Indian Captain of the Women’s team.
The BCCI could raise between Rs 6,000 and 8000 crore from selling these five franchises. What do you think? How much should the franchise’s base price and how much will your favorite player earn in the WIPL?
