According to reports by ESPN Cricinfo, Shardul Thakur was recently traded to the Kolkata Knight Riders by Delhi Capitals. The deal was in an all-cash deal on Monday, November 14.
At the 2022 IPL mega auction, Capitals bought Thakur for INR 10.75 crore ($1.433 million approx). Shardul is currently in New Zealand with the Indian ODI team.
Due to the high demand for Indian bowling all-rounders, Thakur’s former IPL team Chennai Super Kings, Gujarat Titans, and Punjab Kings attempted to regain Thakur, but Capitals declined.
He finished the IPL 2022 season with 15 wickets in 14 matches and an economy rate of 9.79. It was one of his lowest bowling figures since becoming a regular in 2017. As for his batting, Thakur scored 120 runs and achieved almost 138 runs per innings.
As of Tuesday, the IPL has set a deadline of November 15 for teams to finalize their list of players for retention or release. Knight Riders were the most active franchise before the trading window closed.
In another trade, Knight Riders acquired Lockie Ferguson and Rahmanullah Gurbaz from Titans, making Thakur their third player acquired via a trade.
Shardul Thakur will be representing his sixth IPL team. Formerly a member of Mumbai Indians, Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings), and Rising Pune Supergiants. In addition, he played for Chennai Super Kings (four-time winners) and Delhi Capitals; Palghar played cricket for various teams.
